KOZHIKODE: The district administration in association with the police have introduced traffic regulations in
Kerala's Kozhikode to de-congest roads to market places in the city and to ensure multi-level checking of drivers and helpers of the vehicle. The move is to avoid the congestion of road due to the presence of goods carriages from other states and districts to ensure the prevention of Covid-19.
District collector Sambasiva Rao has formed special squads to carry out inspection at the entrance of Valiyangadi market in the city. The vehicles reaching the market after detailed inspection at the check posts will be rechecked at the market.
All drivers and helpers of goods vehicles from other states will have to undergo health screening at the district check posts. The employees of the goods carriages will be issued health slips at the check posts.
The health slip will have details including the date and time of entry of the vehicle to the district, said an official. The special squad at Valiyangadi will examine the health slip and mark the time of entry to the market place, the official added.
The initiative aims to prevent the unnecessary stay of the truck employees in the district. The squad at Valiyangadi will operate in two shifts, headed by revenue inspector or village officer. A police official and health official will also be the part of the team.
The plan is to immediately shift the persons with Covid-19 symptoms to
coronavirus care centres.
The district administration and police have also introduced one-way traffic to Valiyangadi. All entrances to the market place, except the entry from south beach has been closed. This is to prevent the entry of vehicles without proper checking and to avoid congestion in the market.
Earlier, vehicles used to enter from railway station premise and through K P Kesava Menon road.
In another move, the authorities have fixed 6am as the time for the fish trucks to leave Central Market. All fish trucks transporting fish to retail vending zones will have to leave the spot simultaneously.
At present, 17 trucks have license to transport fish to different zones. The officials introduced the new decision following the finding that trucks without license for transportation during lockdown time were also engaging in fish distribution.
